A workshop entitled directing student research for the Departments of Media and History in the College of Arts

Under the slogan “Taiz Heritage is a shared Responsibility,” and within the awareness activities accompanying the project ” Documentation and assessment of the damages to Al-Qahira Castle , the General Authority for Antiquities and Museums – Taez Branch and Waeey organization for Heritage and Development (WOHD), in coordination with the Faculty of Arts – Taiz University , has hed today 7/2/2024 a workshop titled “Directing Student Research towards Cultural Heritage” at the Faculty of Arts-Taiz University , in partnership with Heritage for Peace Heritage for Peace Organization HFP and funded by ALIPH Foundation ALIPH foundation.

The workshop was attended by the Dean of the Faculty of Arts, Dr. Yahya Al-Mathahji, the chairmen of the History and Media departments, faculty members, researchers, and individuals interested in heritage and archaeology. The participants discussed the current state of cultural heritage (both tangible and intangible) and addressed the problems and challenges facing heritage in Taiz Governorate. Mr. Mahboub Al-Jaradi, the Director of Antiquities and Museums in Taiz, highlighted the limited financial resources of the authority, preventing it from fulfilling all its obligations, including the protection of archaeological and heritage sites.

The workshop concluded with the formulation of draft recommendations and conclusions necessary for the protection of cultural heritage in the governorate. The recommendations emphasized the need to activate laws for the protection of antiquities by the authority and relevant entities, as well as directing student research and projects to ensure the preservation, protection, and sustainable development of cultural heritage and archaeological sites in the governorate, in addition to promoting community participation in these efforts.
