Within the Restoration Project of Al-Qahira Castle in Taiz city, funded by the U.S. Ambassadors Fund for Cultural Preservation (AFCP), supported by the U.S. Diplomatic Mission in Yemen, and in partnership with Heritage for Peace organization and the Authority for Antiquities and Museums branch in Taiz, and under the theme “Let’s Preserve Our Heritage.”

The Waeey Organization for Heritage and Development, in coordination with the Authority for Antiquities and Museums branch, and the Nema Rassam School (Al-Mudhaffer district) and Arwa School (Al-Qahera district), held two workshops for several female teachers of History, Social Studies, and Activities from both schools.

The workshops were held on Monday (October 20, 2025), at Nema Rassam School and the next day at Arwa School.

The workshops aimed at enhancing heritage awareness among the teachers and equipping them with the skills that empower and strengthen their role in reinforcing heritage in the minds of the students.

The two workshops covered several key topics, including the challenges facing cultural heritage in general as a result of conflict and climate change, and the potential for loss of identity and heritage. The workshops also addressed the damage incurred by Al-Qahira Castle and highlighted the crucial role of the teacher in fostering a conscious generation that is a partner in heritage protection and preservation.

During the workshop, Mr. Ramzi Al-Dumaini, Director of Museums and the officer of the project of Al-Qahira Castle Restoration, delivered a presentation reviewing the historical significance of Al-Qahira Castle as a prominent archaeological landmark in Taiz city. He also discussed the restoration project, its accompanying activities, and the considerable efforts being made to revive the Castle and restore its beauty.

Ms. Hana’a Al-Sharjabi, Educational Supervisor and Popular Heritage Officer at the organization, trained the teachers and explained the booklet prepared by the Heritage for Peace organization specifically for Al-Qahira Castle, which covers the Castle’s history and the details of its precise architectural construction.

The workshops emphasized the importance of joint action between educational institutions, the authorities concerned with preserving cultural heritage, and the Waeey Organization, as well as encouraging community participation in cultural heritage preservation. The workshops received significant interaction from the administrations of both schools, represented by Ms. Raja’a Al-Dubaie and Ms. Intisar, as well as the teachers of both schools and attendees, who presented valuable ideas and constructive suggestions on how to promote heritage awareness among students.

The workshops were attended by Mr. Mahboob Al-Jaradi, General Director of the Authority for Antiquities and Museums, Engineer Anis Ghailan, Head of Waeey for Heritage and Development Organization, and Mr. Ramzi Al-Dumaini, Director of Museums.
