Implementing the Project ” Restoration Initiative for the historical Al-Qahira Castle Conservation and Cultural Resilience Promotion “
On Monday, January 6, 2025, under the patronage of the Minister of Information, Culture, and Tourism, Mr. Muammar Al-Eryani, the Governor of Taiz, Mr. Nabil Shamsan, and the Chairman of the General Authority for Antiquities and Museums, Dr. Ahmed Batayea , the General Authority for Antiquities and Museums – Taiz Branch, in collaboration with Heritage for Peace Organization and funded by the (AFCP), has launched the project “Restoration Initiative for the historical Al-Qahira Castle Conservation and Cultural Resilience Promotion” . The event took place at the historical Al-Qahira Castle, attended by the General Authority for Antiquities and Museums in Taiz, represented by the General Director, Mr. Mahboub Al-Jaradi, the Museums Director, Mr. Ramzi Al-Dumaini , and the Antiquities Director, Mr. Ahmed Jasar, along with Waeey Organization for Heritage and Development WOHD and a group of media activists and heritage enthusiasts , and students from the faculty of Media , faculty of Art , Taiz university .
The General Director of Antiquities and Museums for Taiz Governorate, Mr. Mahboub Al-Jaradi, outlined the project’s goals and activities, which will include restoring the main entrance of the castle, the demolished southern walls, and the northwestern walls of the fortress. There will also be efforts to search for artifacts lost due to the collapse and deterioration of parts of the castle.
The Chairman of the Waeey Organization, Mr. Anees Ghailan, emphasized the importance of the project and its role in enhancing cultural resilience against climate change and conflicts that have caused huge damages to many historical archaeological sites.
This project marks a significant step towards rebuilding Yemeni cultural identity and cohesion and reviving cultural heritage. It opens broad horizons for those interested in heritage, as the event saw the participation of a group of youth interested in heritage, who expressed their views on the positive impact of initiating this project , which aims to reintegrate and link them with their heritage and history represented by the historical Al-Qahira Castle, the front-facing landmark of Taiz and Yemen
