Implementing a school awareness program on the importance of preserving heritage and promoting environmental awareness.

Within the educational project which lunched last March , funded by the UWE Bristol Impact Accelerator Account ً(#AHRC-IAA), which aims to enhance the impact of scientific research in the fields of arts, humanities, and cultural heritage protection.and in partnership with Heritage for Peace organization and the Authority for Antiquities and Museums branch in Taiz; Waeey Organization for Heritage and Development is implementing the accompanying awareness program for the project “Restoration of the Historic Al-Qahira Castle and Enhancing Cultural Resilience”, in which school awareness is a prominent activity of this project due to its importance in reinforcing national values for the targeted students, connecting them to the cultural heritage of their ancestors and successive civilizations, emphasizing the importance of preserving cultural heritage, and promoting environmental awareness.
In collaboration with the Authority for Antiquities and Museums branch in Taiz, the Educational Sector, and the school administration, Waeey Organization for Heritage and Development launched the school awareness activities through a field visit for 15 students of Sirwah Private School to the historic Al-Qahira Castle. This visit aims to raise students’ awareness of the historical significance of the Castle and the importance of the “Restoration of the Historic Al-Qahira Castle and Enhancing Cultural Resilience” project, as well as its impact on preserving cultural heritage and archaeological sites, and reinforcing a sense of belonging and responsibility towards national heritage. During the visit, students listened to several lectures by specialists in archaeological, engineering, and awareness aspects. They learned about the environmental damage caused by the harmful plants spreading around the Castle, how it is growing, as well as their detrimental effects on the structure and the surrounding environment. The impact of these plant roots on weakening the foundations of historic buildings was also explained. Students were informed about safe methods for removing harmful plants, with an emphasis placed on the importance of transferring the knowledge gained during this visit to their fellow students and families. This activity is part of a series of educational awareness activities targeting students from various schools and universities in Taiz Governorate, aiming to reinforce in them a spirit of responsibility and national belonging.
