A visit to the historic Al-Qahira Castle in Taiz

Al-Qahira Castle Restoration Project AFCP -Funded & U.S. Mission Support, through the Spanish organization Heritage for Peace.
Waeey Organization for Heritage and Development organized a visit on (Saturday, October 4, 2025), to the historic Al-Qahira Castle in Taiz, in partnership with the Authority for Antiquities and Museums.
The visit gathered representatives from several community initiatives, activists, cultural heritage enthusiasts, and students from Taiz University’s Media Department. Visitors were briefed on the significant damage inflicted upon the Castle by the conflicts and environmental factors. They also reviewed ongoing preservation and protection efforts, including the current restoration work aimed at enhancing the site’s cultural resilience. This project is generously funded by the U.S. Ambassadors Fund for Cultural Preservation (AFCP), with support from the U.S. Diplomatic Mission to Yemen, in partnership with the Heritage for Peace organization and the Authority for Antiquities and Museums in Taiz.
Eng. Anis Ghailan (Head of Waeey Organization) explained the Castle’s rich history, underscoring the severe impact of conflict on this vital archaeological landmark. He stressed the crucial role of cultural heritage preservation in strengthening national identity and urged attendees to fulfill their duty by promoting community awareness and protection.
Ahmed Al-Jaberi, an archaeological specialist and a staff member of the Authority for Antiquities and Museums in Taiz, detailed the Castle’s historical significance and explained the current restoration project’s work plan and various interventions.
The visitors expressed their deep satisfaction and appreciation for the restoration efforts, conveying special gratitude for the AFCP’s generous support and the work of all partners and implementers. They concluded by appealing to international organizations and donor funds for further support and pledged their own readiness to engage in awareness-raising, advocacy, and social
